First Steps Consultation

Every Child’s Journey Begins with Understanding

Many parents come to us with quiet worries and heartfelt questions — “Is my child developing at the right pace?”, “Should I wait and see?”, or “Do I need to get professional help?”

At Esperanza Speech and Occupational Therapy Centre in Dubai, we understand how uncertain those early steps can feel. That’s why we created “First Steps”, a free consultation designed to help parents understand their child’s development with clarity, confidence, and care.

This no-obligation session offers the chance to speak with an experienced therapist, share your concerns, and receive thoughtful, professional guidance — all in a warm, family-centered environment.

Because at Esperanza, we believe that every child’s growth begins with understanding their unique strengths and needs.

Why We Started “First Steps”

When families first reach out, they often feel unsure about where to begin. Some worry about speech delays or difficulty with attention, while others notice challenges with play, independence, or school readiness.

“First Steps” was created to support parents at this exact moment — when they’re searching for answers and direction. It gives families a chance to speak with our team and explore whether speech therapy, occupational therapy, or another type of developmental support may be beneficial.

Our team includes licensed Speech and Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists each with more than eight years of experience. Together, we use evidence-based approaches and a compassionate mindset to guide families through every stage of their child’s journey.

Over the years, Esperanza has supported hundreds of children across Dubai in building confidence, communication, and independence. “First Steps” is our way of helping parents begin that journey with understanding and reassurance.

What to Expect During the Free Consultation

Your “First Steps” consultation lasts around 60 minutes and is designed to feel relaxed, supportive, and natural for both you and your child.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • A genuine conversation: We begin by listening to you — understanding your child’s history, strengths, and any challenges or concerns you’ve noticed.
  • Play-based observation: Our therapists gently observe your child through play or interaction to see how they communicate, move, and engage.
  • Professional guidance: Before the session ends, we share clear recommendations on what might come next, whether that means beginning therapy, scheduling an assessment, or continuing to observe your child’s development.

This consultation is not a formal assessment, but it offers invaluable insight. It helps parents make informed decisions about next steps, with the comfort of knowing they are supported by professionals who care.

Consultation vs. Assessment – Understanding the Difference

Parents sometimes wonder what sets a consultation apart from an assessment. The difference lies in the level of detail and purpose.

A consultation is a short, informal session lasting 30–45 minutes. It’s free of charge and focuses on understanding your child’s general development and offering practical guidance.

An assessment, on the other hand, is a detailed evaluation carried out over two to three sessions (each lasting about an hour). During the assessment, therapists use standardized tools and structured observations to build a complete picture of your child’s developmental profile. Assessments include a written report and tailored recommendations for therapy. These are paid sessions due to the depth of analysis involved.

The free consultation helps you determine whether a full assessment is necessary and gives you professional advice without commitment.

Why Families Appreciate “First Steps”

Families who experience “First Steps” often describe it as the turning point — the moment they finally felt understood and supported. Parents appreciate that it:

  • Provides clarity and peace of mind about their child’s development.
  • Offers honest, evidence-based guidance from experienced professionals.
  • Creates a comfortable, judgment-free space to ask questions.
  • Helps families make confident, informed choices about next steps.

At Esperanza, we see every family as a partner in the process. Our goal is to walk alongside you — celebrating each small success, nurturing growth, and building the foundations for lifelong learning and confidence.

This flagship community programme reflects Esperanza’s commitment to supporting families across Dubai. Through a 60-minute session, parents receive professional clarity about their child’s development in a supportive, pressure-free environment. There is no requirement or expectation to continue therapy with us following the session; our aim is simply to guide and empower families with the right information for their child.

Your child will meet one of our DHA-licensed specialists; either a Speech and Language Pathologist or an Occupational Therapist. Unlike a general screening, this session is led by professionals with over 8 years of experience in pediatric development here in the UAE.

No. The consultation is an introductory session focused on guidance, while an assessment is a detailed evaluation involving multiple sessions and formal reports.

No. The “First Steps” session is an informal consultation, not a formal clinical assessment. While we provide verbal guidance and next-step recommendations, schools in Dubai (KHDA) usually require a Comprehensive Assessment Report, which is a separate, more detailed process.

In Dubai’s fast-paced environment, it’s common to wonder if your child is hitting milestones. If you’ve noticed delays in speaking, difficulty following instructions, or challenges with play and “big emotions,” this consultation is the perfect place to start.

We are located in Zabeel Road, Bur Dubai, very close to Karama Post Office, making us easily accessible for families in Al Safa, Umm Suqeim, and Downtown Dubai. We offer convenient RTA and paid building parking right at our doorstep, so you don’t have to worry about the “Dubai parking struggle” before your appointment.

Absolutely. We follow a family-centered approach. If your child spends a significant amount of time with a caregiver or nanny, they are welcome to join so we can understand your child’s routine in the context of your Dubai home life.

Since this is a free, no-obligation session, it is not billable to insurance. However, if the consultation leads to a formal assessment or therapy, we provide all the necessary DHA-stamped documentation for you to claim reimbursement from providers like NAS,AXA, Daman, or Oman Insurance.

Yes. Dubai is a multicultural hub. Our therapists are highly experienced in multilingual language acquisition and will help you understand if your child is experiencing a true delay or is simply navigating the complexities of a multi-language household.

We will give you a clear, honest roadmap. We might suggest a full assessment, a period of “watchful waiting,” or immediate therapy sessions. Our goal is to ensure you leave with a plan that fits your family’s schedule.

We know that when parents have a concern, they want answers fast. You can usually book a slot within 48 to 72 hours by messaging our team on WhatsApp at +971 55 524 1094.
