The Esperanza Clinical Programs

At Esperanza, our programs are designed to meet the real needs of children and families living in Dubai and across the UAE. Every programme is rooted in clinical excellence and shaped by evidence-based practices used in leading child development centres worldwide. Our signature pathways; First Steps, CONNECT, and LEAP; are developed within Hope Labs, our in-house research and innovation wing, where global best practices are carefully adapted for the cultural, linguistic, and family dynamics of the UAE.

Located in Dubai and supporting families from areas such as Karama, Oud Metha, Bur Dubai, and surrounding communities, Esperanza’s programs focus on practical, meaningful outcomes. We partner closely with parents to ensure each child receives developmentally appropriate, research-driven support that fits seamlessly into everyday life at home, in school, and in the wider community.

1. First Steps: The Free Consultation Programme

Developed in Hope Labs

  • Who it is for: Parents who have noticed their child’s unique way of engaging with the world; whether through communication, social approach, or daily challenges and are seeking professional clarity.
  • The Framework: Strength-Based Clinical Consultation. We move beyond simple diagnosis to identify what a child will do, rather than just what they cannot.
  • The Outcome: Parents receive immediate psychological relief and a Growth Blueprint, a personalized roadmap that replaces uncertainty with a clear, actionable strategy for the child’s future.

2. Core Therapy: The Clinical Foundation

  • Who it is for: Children and adolescents requiring intensive, one-on-one support to bridge developmental gaps in communication, motor skills, or behaviour.
  • The Framework: Multidisciplinary Integrated Care. A personalized plan with short-term and long-term goals, where therapists (Speech, OT, and Behaviour) work as a unified “Core Team”.
    • Speech Therapy: Focuses on improving clarity and bridging the gap between thoughts and expression.
    • Occupational Therapy: Enhances motor coordination, sensory regulation, and independence in daily tasks like writing or dressing.
    • Behaviour Therapy: Provides structured strategies for self-regulation, adaptability, and positive social interactions.
  • The Outcome: A measurable increase in functional skills and a family empowered with coaching strategies to reinforce goals at home.

3. The CONNECT Programme: The Social Bridge

Developed in Hope Labs

  • Who it is for: Children who have mastered foundational skills and are ready to transition from 1-on-1 focus to peer-to-peer interaction and social belonging.
  • The Framework: Evidence-Based Social Integration. CONNECT integrates various methodologies adapted for the local cultural context:
    • LEGO® Therapy: A cornerstone where children collaborate as Engineers, Suppliers, and Builders to practice negotiation and teamwork.
    • The Social Communication Framework: Teaching the “unwritten rules” of social engagement.
    • Zones of Regulation: Helping children recognize and manage their internal emotional states.
    • Narrative Skills: Building the ability to organize thoughts and tell coherent, logical stories.
  • The Outcome: Social Confidence. Transitioning from social hesitation to successful interaction, emotional literacy, and the joy of forming meaningful connections with others.

4. The LEAP Programme: Holistic School Integration

Developed in Hope Labs

    • Who it is for: Children preparing for school or those who need to shift their skills from the clinic into real-world settings like the classroom and community.
    • The Framework: The LEAP (Learning, Early Achievement, and Preparation) Model. A child-centered approach focusing on the essential pillars of independence:
      • Cognitive & School Readiness: Focus on attention, memory, and classroom routines (like lining up or following instructions).
      • Social-Emotional Skills: Cooperation, turn-taking, and confidence in group settings.
      • Self-Care Skills: Independence in routines such as eating, dressing, and managing personal belongings.
    • The Outcome: Real-World Independence. Skills become “second nature,” allowing the child to navigate school and community life with self-reliance.

5. Parent Training: The Empowerment Anchor

  • Who it is for: All families at Esperanza who believe that the home is the most vital place for a child’s development.
  • The Framework: The Hanen® Parent Training Programs. A world-class, research-driven approach where therapists act as facilitators to coach parents.
  • The Outcome: A Flourishing Family. Parents become their child’s first and best teachers, using everyday moments to build communication, leading to accelerated progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hope Labs is Esperanza’s internal research and development wing. It is our “Innovation Engine,” where senior clinicians adapt global evidence-based methodologies into proprietary frameworks like First Steps, CONNECT, and LEAP. By centering our development in Hope Labs, we ensure that every programme is optimized for the unique cultural and educational landscape of Dubai, moving beyond “one-size-fits-all” therapy.

Developed in Hope Labs, our First Steps screening moves away from the traditional “Deficit Model.” Instead of focusing only on what is wrong, we utilize Neuro-Affirmative Screening. We identify a child’s “Spiky Profile” recognizing their areas of high ability and use those strengths to “bootstrap” their areas of challenge.

CONNECT is a multidisciplinary intervention developed in Hope Labs that synthesizes several gold-standard frameworks:

  • The Social Communication Framework: Targets the “Pragmatics” (unwritten rules) of language.
  • TalkAbility™ (The Hanen Centre®): Designed to help verbal children find the “social” in their communication.
  • Zones of Regulation®: A cognitive-behavioral approach used to teach self-regulation through four colored emotional zones.

In the CONNECT Programme, we use LEGO® Therapy to target Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS). Children are assigned specific linguistic and motor roles: The Engineer (verbal instructions), The Supplier (identifying pieces), and The Builder (fine motor execution). This forces “Social Repair”—where children must use language to resolve misunderstandings and negotiate toward a common goal.

Narrative Skills refer to the “Macro-structure” of language, the ability to organize complex thoughts into a logical sequence.

  • The Mechanism: We use story-mapping to help children identify “Character Perspective” and “Initiating Events.”
  • The Outcome: This is critical for academic success in the Dubai school system and for the development of Theory of Mind the ability to understand that others have different thoughts and feelings.

LEAP (Learning, Early Achievement, and Preparation) is a clinical school-readiness intervention. Unlike a classroom, every activity is engineered to target Executive Functioning Skills:

  • Working Memory: Remembering multi-step instructions.
  • Inhibitory Control: Managing impulses during group tasks.
  • Cognitive Flexibility: Successfully transitioning between activities.

Yes. The programme is inherently inclusive and designed to support children with a variety of developmental or learning challenges.

Transitioning between tasks is a frequent trigger for anxiety. In LEAP, we use Predictive Sequencing and Visual Schedules to build the neurological flexibility needed to shift attention from play to work without emotional dysregulation.

The Hanen Centre® is the global leader in family-centered intervention. We incorporate the It Takes Two to Talk®” and “TalkAbility™” methodologies because they are statistically proven to bridge the “Dose Gap.” By training the “Natural Language Facilitator” (the parent), we turn everyday routines into high-frequency therapy opportunities.

The duration is as unique as your child. While some families find clarity through a First Steps consultation, others stay with us through LEAP graduation. We use “Clinical Sprints” short-term, measurable goals to ensure progress is constant and visible.

At Esperanza, parents are partners, not observers. While children have dedicated 1-on-1 time, parent coaching and debriefs are woven into every phase to ensure strategies for the dinner table, the park, and the classroom are fully integrated.
